Chapter 14: The History of Life
Life has been on earth for a long, long time...or has it? Time is a relevant thing...what seems like a long time for one person may seem like a 'blink of an eye' to another! Not sure? Talk to your parents or grandparents sometime. Ask your grandparents about something that seems like a long time ago to you such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy (1964) and see what their response is. Then, ask your parents about the events of 9/11. To you, 2001 was a long time ago, after all, you are 15 or 16 years old and 2001 was 9 years ago when you were only 6 or 7 years old. But I would bet that your parents can tell you exactly what they were doing when they first learned of this terrorist attack. Likewise with your grandparents. They can probably even tell you what they were wearing when the news of JFK's assassination was broadcast. The point here is that the earth is thought to be 4.6 billion years old and the oldest known fossil is 3.9 billion years old. From the earliest bacteria to today's complex life-forms life has been a journey. Join in on this journey of discovery!
